In Years 3 and 4 we have a very strong focus on learning our times tables. Multiplication is a foundational skill that underpins so many different areas of maths and wider aspects of life. Being strong and confident in multiplication allows the children to access other areas of maths more fluently and allows them to then focus on deepening their understanding.

It is also a statutory requirement in the summer term of year 4 for children take an online times tables test. The expectation is that all children know all the tables to 12 x 12 by this time. The earlier practice begins, the more confident they can become.

These two websites are a great tool to help support children build confidence and familiarity with their times tables. 

TTRockstars is a fantastic learning resource that the children should be utilising at home to support their ongoing learning. It is a game based learning tool where children can compete with their peers and buy their rock star new items! Children have individual logins which have been sent home at the beginning of the year. The children have been set specific tables on which to focus their learning, which will be amended regularly.

The MTC check by URBrainy is an amazing tool that mirrors how the statutory test will look and be completed by the children. It allows them to answer 25 questions with 6 seconds for each! Regularly testing the children this way will undoubtedly support them in their maths development, now and in the future, as well as prepare them for the statutory assessment in the Summer of Year 4.
