Phonics and Reading Books
Within the school day we teach specific Guided Reading sessions. Children will work with the class teacher at least once a week in their groups to read and discuss a book closely matched to their phonics knowledge. The children will then read independently and complete some questions based on what they have read.
Children will also have a home reading book. Please read the books as regularly as possible with your child. When your child has finished their home reading book, please sign your child's reading record leaving any comments you wish the teacher to read.
Books will be changed predominantly on a Friday with Miss Owens but please do not hesitate to ask for further home reading books if your child is reading more frequently. We do encourage reading for pleasure so a trip to the library or reading some of the books your children have at home would also be a fantastic work to support and promote reading.
Reading is very important and you should read for at least 10 to 15 minutes every night.
TRICKY WORDS
These are words that are not decodable. We learn these by sight and it is really important that we continue to practise reading and spelling them. We like to sing songs in school to help us. We also use our BSL signs alongside the song.
