Reading Books, Phonics & Homework

New home readers in line with your child's phonic phase will be sent home twice a week on a Tuesday and a Friday. These books are fully decodable, meaning your child should be able to read them independently using their phonic knowledge to 'segment' and 'blend' words and identify those that are 'tricky'. The books sent home each week will contain sounds that the children have learnt that week and those previously learnt.

In line with our school Reading Policy, we ask that all parents sign and date their child’s reading record each time they have read at home.

We ask that reading books be brought in every day so that staff and volunteers can listen to children read.

Parents of children in Class one can also note the date each time they read on the reading challenge chart, they can earn stickers, prizes and certificates for their efforts.

Homework is sent on a weekly basis and will consist of an activity to help children consolidate their learning.
