Topmarks is one of the most useful sites for young children because it has a huge collection of interactive games organised by age and subject. There are activities for counting, number recognition, addition, shapes, patterns, phonics, reading and spelling. Many games are particularly well suited to EYFS and Year 1 and can be played without creating an account

Oxford Owl has lots of resources aimed specifically at 4–5 and 5–6-year-olds. There are online games and activities covering letter sounds, early maths, vocabulary and reading.

A particularly useful feature is the free eBook library, which includes books suitable for children from age 3 upwards, including Oxford Reading Tree and Read Write Inc. books.

CBeebies has a large collection of games, videos, songs and activities designed for younger children. It's particularly useful for EYFS because activities tend to be short, visual and play-based.

BBC Bitesize has resources across English, maths, science and other primary subjects. It is particularly useful as children move from EYFS into Year 1 because you can gradually introduce more structured activities.

There are videos, games and explanations which can be used alongside classroom learning or for additional practice.

Both these websites contain free interactive phonics games covering areas such as letter sounds, blending, segmenting and word reading. It can be useful for both Reception and Year 1 children.

This is a fun game-based approach to teaching reading. Children create and customise a monster while working through phonics activities and gradually building their reading skills.

It's particularly appealing to children who enjoy game-style learning rather than worksheets. The website version has traditionally offered free access, although availability can vary between platforms.

NRICH is excellent if you're looking for activities that go beyond simply practising number facts. Its Early Years resources encourage children to explore, investigate, reason and solve problems.

Activities can often be done away from a screen using everyday objects, making it particularly useful for EYFS. There are also activities that work very well with Year 1 children.

Super Movers combines movement, music and learning. This is particularly useful for EYFS children who benefit from getting up and moving rather than sitting at a screen for long periods.

It can be used for counting, times tables, literacy and other curriculum areas, as well as providing short movement breaks.
